Part-time Internship at family business institutions

During my internship, I gained valuable experience at two of my father’s clothing stores, namely CIVILIAN and S.N. Trading. CIVILIAN specializes in Western outfits for both men and women, while S.N. Trading offers a collection of traditional garments. I dedicated over 18 months to these roles, attending each store on alternate days. My primary focus was on CIVILIAN, where I discovered my passion for analyzing fashion trends in Western attire, ultimately contributing to the preparation of our store’s outfit collection.

I allocated approximately 2 to 3 hours each evening on alternate days to both establishments, increasing my commitment to over 5 hours on significant festive occasions such as Eid, Durga Puja, and Pahela Baishakh. Initially, I commenced my responsibilities by learning how to oversee the accounts section, manage sales and purchases, handle party payments for new arrivals, and track daily expenses at both stores. Within three months, I gained the necessary expertise to manage the store in my father’s absence during his wholesale purchasing trips across various regions in Bangladesh.

During this period, I was entrusted with receiving goods via courier, tagging clothing items, and preparing the entire collection for display. Additionally, I engaged in sales activities.
Gradually, I accompanied my father on sourcing trips to renowned wholesale clothing markets including Gazipur, Savar, Keraniganj, Jinjira, Jessore, Tongi, the EPZ area, Tangail, and Pabna. I assisted in allocating 50% of the incoming stock for retail sales upon returning to Chittagong, while the remaining 50% was distributed for wholesale transactions in
suburban and rural areas, such as Hathazati, Fatikchari and Lohagara.

Through my efforts, I successfully generated sales amounting to BDT 20,000 to 25,000 in Western attire and approximately BDT 20,000 in traditional wearables. In total, my contributions enhanced the business’s profit margin to approximately BDT 10,000 to 12,000 monthly, culminating in an annual profit of BDT 120,000 to 144,000 during my tenure. For my part-time internship, I received a monthly salary of BDT 7,000.
